“MAP was responsible for the concept design, presentation material and cladding detail drawings on this luxury condominium project in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, near the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. The Avare is 41 stories high with two apartments on each floor – 78 units in total, and is one of the most prestigious addresses in the KLCC enclave (home of Kuala Lumpur’s elite).
Developed in association with Robert Kessler, The Avare takes the form of a butterfly that has been extruded vertically to produce an elegant pair of elliptical towers, connected by a central service and circulation zone. The over appearance purposely acknowledges the architectural aesthetic of the Petronas Towers. The Avare is the first condominium in Malaysia to feature glass curtain walls, the MAP design incorporates stainless steel brises soleil as a fully integrated environmental design feature.
The key challenge of this project was to maintain views, and available outdoor space on a very tight footprint, surrounded by other high rise buildings. The MAP design and curtain wall solution provides each apartment with 180 degree views of KLC including the Petronas Towers, KLCC Park and the KLCC skyline –owners of the penthouse suites receive 360 degree views of the city. To accommodate the Malaysian love of their vehicles, and the three car spaces per apartment requirement , the Avare has a five level basement.
All units were sold out two years prior to project completion. The development was Awarded the CNBC Award for Residential High Rise of the Year 2008.”
