“Chengfu New Town, in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China is a new town for 180,000 people due for completion in 2015. The client and contractor weren’t happy with the Government’s land-use study or the existing scheme and appointment to rework the master plan and create a more attractive environment.
After much research and analysis MAP provided a number of solutions to and modifications to make the town more interesting. The original plan was based on a rigid, rectangular grid which ignored the natural and very interesting geography, existing villages, scenery and views. MAP took full advantage of these features and the natural slope of the land down to the beautiful lake. Doing some architectural ‘surgery’, MAP changed the nature of the town master plan to create a more dynamic, free-flowing quality which has impressed and pleased both the client and the contractor.”
