“Eden View is a small enclave of terraced houses overlooking Stanley, Hong Kong’s iconic ‘fishing village’. The client bought a house in the complex, sight unseen, and commissioned MAP to “”take the house apart and put it back together again””. The project took five months to complete.
MAP’s design focused on the transformation of the entrance space, opening up the home, letting in more natural light and capturing the sea views that this property enjoys. MAP’s signature oversized door in steel and frosted glass swings open to reveal the entrance area and the stairwell. MAP widened the entry hallway and constructed an open rise “”floating”” stairwell providing view to the lower ground floor living room and the upper ground floor formal dining area.
A suspended ceiling, recessed lighting and floating walls were used to provide clean, crisp lines and conceal ugly concrete beams, as well as providing gallery space for the client’s love of art and their passion for vintage and antique furniture.
“”[Billson] is so passionate, which sometimes meant he said ‘no’ to us. But his sensibility is spot on. As an end result we are very happy with the renovation.”””
