“MAP was commissioned to design a new boutique resort on Chaweng Beach, the main beach on Koh Samui. The brief required a large number of guest rooms, preservation of the landscape, and a contemporary interpretation of traditional Thai style.
With view to making it a premier resort on the island, the MAP master plan created two distinct levels with generously sized rooms: pool suites on the upper level, and garden suites below – both offering optimum privacy and convenience for guests.
The architecture of the hotel interprets the classic Thai style in a contemporary way, executed with modern materials. A palette of white on white was used with clean simple lines to convey a spacious, light and timeless vision. The main challenge was to achieve the desired number of rooms within a resort of this size and quality, all providing beach front views. Topographical research and detailed testing of various models has ensured optimum views from each room.”
