Runaway Cow winery Hotel is located in Penglai in Shandong Province. The Chateau Lafite Rothchild winery is very close to the site and Runaway Cow is hoping to benefit from the proximity to their famous neighbour. MAP were commissioned to plan the interiors which resuted in many changes to the architectural envelope of the building to get the Hotel to work well. There are only 16 keys in this boutique hotel which the developer described as their “country house”. The facilities include a winery and a ball room which will seat 200 people and a huge landscaped roof for outdoor functions. There is also a substanital Tasting room on the ground floor which can serve as a prefunction space. MAP makes reference to European Country House materials and construction methodologies to try to bring that feeling of being in a rural retreat and not another urban hotel.
