“Having seen the MAP designed Baan Suralai in the hills above Bophut, the client chose MAP to provide a similar concept design for Villa Serendipity. The brief was to create a private, tranquil residence “”with a soul”” in a tropical modern Thai style, making full use of light, space and views and seemlessly integrating indoor and outdoor living.
Called an architectural delight in Thailand’s equivalent of Home and Garden magazine, Villa Serendipity is located on the south east coast of Koh Samui in Laem Set. It is perched high on a steep slope providing 180 degree views of the Gulf of Thailand. The Villa melds with the environs with its Thai style shingled roof, use of natural stone and landscaped grounds.
The four bedroom and four bathroom Villa Serendipity is reached by a private road with lush landscaped gardens on either side. Guests are welcomed with a clear entrance pond which opens into a magnificent cathedral height ceiling space that encompasses a large foyer, living and the dining rooms. The easy flowing space has a natural ventilation system with large doors and windows opening wide to capture the breeze on the hottest of days. An infinity edge swimming pool, outdoor entertaining deck, yoga sala, and extensive landscaped gardens make the Villa perfect for entertaining.
Natural Thai materials have been used extensively throughout the Villa and the on-site project team focused on every detail to ensure high quality finishes throughout. The interior design also uses local materials with a natural palate of colours to create a relaxed feel. Contemporary local furniture store Oriental Living supplied the majority of furniture for the Villa.
